I Dream of...
...my baby no longer having a gassy tummy.
...wandering the Ballard Farmer's Market looking for pink ladies
...summertime dance parties
...sleep
...putting together a camp kitchen for summer camping
...picnics in the sun
...scouring the beach looking for shells
...baking cakes and breads
...bbq's at the homestead
...drinking a sofia mini on a warm summer night
...sewing a pretty apron
...planting flowers and vegetables in the backyard
...new furniture
...kitty keeping his fur to himself instead of all over my curtains and couch
...honeysuckles outside our bedroom window
oh so many dreams.

Colic = No Good
six weeks old and augie's gassy tummy has gotten worse. yesterday was the hardest day, with him screaming and crying in pain from 8:30am to 5:00pm. ugh. poor baby boy. today's been a bit easier. he's sleeping right now (!) and has only fussed for a couple of hours this morning (more !'s). we visited the doctor this morning, who says that augie's looking great, is now weighing 10 lbs / 2 oz - chunky monkey - and it just might be colic. if that's the case, he says to brace ourselves for possibly another 6 weeks of this. more ughs. we've tried everything - mylicon, gripe water, tummy rubs, bicycling his legs, warm baths, formula changes, bottle changes, different ways to breastfeed, and nothing has worked thus far. however, a friend loaned us her baby sling (a Moby), and it's awesome for trying to get my poor screaming baby to sleep!
sleep. sigh.
i must confess that i'm feeling very frazzled right now. when augie passes gas after hours of straining, i weep. seriously. it's like a sigh of relief for my poor kid. six more weeks of this? oh man. someone said that colic is a great bonding time for mother and baby because all of your waking hours (all 21 in my case) are spent trying to console and care for your baby. well, there's a whole lot of bonding going on over here at The Millage these days! i'm counting down to 5:30, when paul should be getting home. as soon as he does, i can't wait to take a shower and brush my hair! yay!

shh...
augie has been napping for 3 hours now.
!!
in 3 hours, i've been able to:
1. take a shower
2. make breakfast
3. scour the internets for diaper deals
4. read a couple of music blogs (largeheartedboy.com and popmatters.com)
5. read
6. creat the post you're reading right now.
!!!
it's like christmas at The Millage, with my morning usually looking like a mad sprint to take a 5 minute shower and pound a bowl of cereal before my boy wakes up from his hour long nap. yay!
here's something that i found that brought some sunny-ness to my day!

Hello Blog-Land
It's 2:16 and my sweet baby boy has just gone down for nap #2 of the day. Instead of scrambling to get the practical things done (you know...laundry, scrub the kitchen, make dinner, nap) I'm in blog-land reading my hubby's blog and thinking that's it's time I post to mine. Golly, I've been threatening a blog for months so I guess it's time I actually get on with yet, yeah? So here it is...and here it hopefully continues. I have no real agenda for this page short of just having a place to scribble thoughts, stories, and perhaps some photos of life as a wifey and a mama here at The Millage.
The Millage. Home sweet home to us Millers.
Anyway, the sun is trying to peek through grey clouds so perhaps I'll take the boy (August Jonathan - or Augie - or Gus - or Bubba) for a little walk. He loves being in his carseat and loves being strolled about and it seems to ease up his horrible gas pains (which hurt, the poor kid) and keeps me going as I put in a 22 hour day. Well, today is shaping up to be more of a 20 hour day, which is just wonderful! I've somehow accumulated 4 hours of sleep between 1am and 2pm. Miracle of God? Absolutely!
Before I log off, here are some photos:
